After creating this oilcan in Maya I was asked whether I would do a tutorial on the creation process. So here is part 1 in the series covering the modeling aspect of things.
There are a lot of ways you can approach a 3Dmodel of a wooden crate.
In my opinion the first question you would ask yourself is “Where am I going to use it?”
If it is for a game it needs to have a clean mesh, be UVed and have a low poly count.
If you on the other hand are modeling for a simple single render shot you wouldn’t have to be too concerned about the poly count.
