Mental Ray for Maya 2017 ? MIA_Material_X explained

Autodesk decided to go with Arnold as the default renderer in Maya 2017 and many Mental Ray fans are wondering, OK, now what ? Should I learn how to use Arnold ? Well luckily NVIDIA is working hard on Mental Ray for Maya 2017 ( and I get to test it, yay ! ) So true to Mental Ray this tutorial will take a closer look at the features of the MIA material.

Q: I can’t find Mental Ray in Autodesk Maya

If you can’t select ,Mental Ray as a renderer in your drop down menu under your render options ( see below ) Then it is most likely that your Mental Ray option isn’t loaded in your Plugin Manager


To solve this problem go to Window – Settings/Preferences – Plug-in Manager


Scroll down in the menu and look for Mayatomr.mll


Check both Loaded and Autoload. Mental Ray should now be loaded and you should be able to use mental Ray.
